Periodontal disease is diagnosed during a periodontal examination and sho.   We recommend that this be included in regular dental check ups.

What we do is use a periodontal probe to safely measure the space between the tooth and the gums.  As this disease spreads, the space usually widens and deepens

Gingivitis

The first stage of priodontal disease, which is aggravated by plaque.

Periodontitis

As tarter begins to form, the gums will start to pull away from the teeth.  Pockets between the teeth may enlarge as they become filled with bacteria and pus.

Advanced Periodontitis

The teeth tend to lose structure as the bone and gums continue to become damaged..  If left untreatd, the pateinet may experience loose teeth or even loss of teeth..
